Gimme that Belt
13/09/06

The contenders for the WBC Super Lightweight Title came face to face with each other at today's press conference at the Alexandra Palace Wood Green.
Junior Witter No 1 and Demarcus Corley No 2 both spoke confidently about winning the coveted Title. If Witter proves his critics wrong and takes the belt on Friday night he will be the first Brit to hold this version of the title since Lennox Lewis defended it in 2003 against the Ukrainian giant Vitali Klitschko.

"It would be a fantastic achievement, this is the most prestigious title of them all,I had the choice of other versions of the title but for me this is the original.Muhammed Ali held this title and he was a hero of mine I hope to follow in his footsteps."

Many are saying Witter is on the slide after his last two fights didnt exactly set the boxing world alight but Witter is adamant that is not the case.

"The Kotelnik fight was a bit of an anti climax for me,I had just been over to America and beat Lovemore Ndou and I was ready for the World Title but unfortunately it didn't come .I broke my hand in that fight and carried the injuries over into the Kotelnik fight, but I still won,I think people are begriming to realize now how good Kotelnik was.Lets not forget he lost on a split decision to current WBA World Champion Souleymane M'Baye.Lynes on the other hand was a British level fighter who was just glad to survive, for me there was never any threat I just couldn't get out of first gear."

Witter will have to get out of first gear against Corley otherwise he will be left on the starting grid.

"Just watch, come FrIday night I will be the one wearing the green belt I have waited far too long, its my time."
